Yeshua the Messiah Codes:
A Highly Improbable Collection
Recently we searched for all Yeshua the Messiah and The Messiah Yeshua ELSs in the Tanakh. We found five of the first and three of the second. There was nothing unusual about finding this many ELSs, since we would have expected to find 3.7 of each by chance, simply because of the letters in each search term.
When we had Nathan Jacobi, Ph.D., examine each of these ELSs for possible extensions, his findings were highly improbable. While 4.0 extensions, consisting of a total of 16 letters, were expected by chance, Dr. Jacobi found 13 extensions, totaling 75 letters. The odds against finding this many extensions around eight initial ELSs are about one in 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, or one out of a billion times a trillion. The following table recaps the striking difference between what would be expected by chance and what was actually found.
In reality, the odds of chance occurrence of these extended ELSs are far more remote than that, however. In making those calculations, we assumed that each extension merely consisted of reasonable Hebrew within the context of the rest of the extended ELS. We didn't reflect the fact that most, if not all, of the extensions we found would also make sense in terms of the subject matter of the original ELSs. The content of the five extended ELSs is quite cogent and interrelated and seemingly pertinent to the subject matter of the original ELSs.
First, our findings are presented below. Right below each extended code is some commentary on a plausible interpretation of the meaning of each code.
Yeshua the Messiah Codes
Yeshua the Messiah Code #1—The Gift of God
What is a gift? Jesus (Yeshua) the messiah.
This code brings to mind the conversation between Jesus and the woman of Samaria.
Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, "How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?" For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.
Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water." —John 4:9-10 (NKJV, emphasis ours)
Gift is used throughout the New Testament referring to Christ, the Holy Spirit, and God's grace, eternal life, and the spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Yeshua the Messiah Code #4—My Oasis
I will walk to the field from my oasis. Where to?
Jesus (Yeshua) the Messiah, appear joyous across my darkness!
This appears to be the words of someone seeking to find spiritual enlightenment by venturing out of their private world ("oasis") to some public gathering ("field"). As they do so, they are hoping that Jesus will shine light into the darkness in which they have been living. Reference to a "field" as a place of spiritual harvest occurs in a number of places in the Bible.
"Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." —Matthew 9:38 (NIV, emphasis ours)
He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." —Luke 10:2b (NIV, emphasis ours)
Light and darkness are frequent symbols in the New Testament, as illustrated by the following passages:
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." —John 8:12 (NIV, emphasis ours)
I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. —John 12:46 (NIV, emphasis ours)
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. —John 3:19 (NIV, emphasis ours)
Yeshua the Messiah Code #5—He Is Fire
What is Jesus (Yeshua) the Messiah? For them he is fire.
Jesus is referred to with an imagery of fire in 2 Thessalonians 1:6-7:
God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. (NIV, emphasis ours)
The Messiah Yeshua Codes
The Messiah Yeshua Code #1—Watch and Know
Watch and know that a sleeping Rabbi is dead.
The ignorant and impure will hang,
for the Messiah Jesus (Yeshua) was elevated toward the Lord,
and the weak will be bitten.
This code consists of four parts. The following table provides a plausible interpretation of the meaning of each part. The basis for each interpretation appears below the table.
What is astonishing about this code is that its content presents a coherent flow of thought through four consecutive sentences.
The first sentence is reminiscent of some of Jesus' scathing denunciations of the Pharisees.
"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness." —Matthew 23:27 (NKJV, emphasis ours)
The notion that a religious person who does not receive Jesus, when given an opportunity to do so, is spiritually dead, is a key part of Christ's message. He challenged the Pharisee Nicodemus to renounce spiritual deadness and to be "born again."
Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." —John 3:3 (NKJV)
The second sentence could easily refer to Judas, who was very impure, and who hung himself:
So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself. —Matthew 27:5 (NIV, emphasis ours)
The third sentence could be a reference to the ascension of Jesus into heaven:
So when they met together, they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?"
He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven." —Acts 1:6-11 (NIV)
The weak will be bitten may be better understood after reviewing two New Testament passages. This phrase could make sense if the kind of weakness is of the spirit.
I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. —Revelation 3:15-16 (NIV)
The notion of being spiritually bitten seems odd at first, but it was an imagery that Jesus himself used and which his followers found difficult to accept.
Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever." . . . From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. — John 6:53-58, 66 (NIV, emphasis ours)
Taken as a whole, this 35-letter-long code summarizes the core of the Gospel.
It should be acknowledged that other interpretations of the wording of these extended codes is possible. We do not intend to claim that the interpretations given in this article are the only plausible ones that could be suggested.
The Messiah Yeshua Code #3—Jesus Will Mourn
The Messiah Jesus (Yeshua) will mourn for them.
This code is certainly an echo of Scripture, as twice in the New Testament we are told that Jesus wept. The first instance is in Luke 19:41, where Jesus wept over Jerusalem.
Now as He drew near, He saw the city [Jerusalem] and wept over it. (NKJV)
Of note is His action following this expression of sorrow. He cleansed the temple.
Then He went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in it, saying to them, "It is written, 'My house is a house of prayer,' but you have made it a 'den of thieves.' " —Luke 19:45-46 (NKJV)
In John 11:34-36, when Jesus went to the tomb where Lazarus had been laid for four days—He wept.
And He said, "Where have you laid him?"
They said to Him, "Lord, come and see."
Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, "See how He loved him!" (NKJV)
Following Jesus weeping for Lazarus, he brings him back from the dead.
Jesus said to her, "Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?" Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, "Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me." Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come forth!" And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Loose him, and let him go." —John 11:40-44 (NKJV)
